In the US, July 4th is the day that we, as a nation, celebrate our freedom and independence. As I think about that this weekend, the words that stare back at me from the cover of my own book take on a bigger meaning: What are you willing to do to get what you really want?
The colonists certainly found their answer. As the pain of going along and enduring increased, one by one, they collectively became willing to consider other options. And when the situation finally became intolerable, the patriots courageously took action.
It?s the same for each of us. When we reach our personal break point?when the pain of staying in a situation becomes worse than the fear of changing it?we?ll do something. Today, I?m asking you to do something anyway?before you?re forced to.
First, be honest. What have you been ignoring that you know you need to deal with? What have you been letting slide because it?s easier to put up with it than change it? Is what you?re doing now making you happy?
Unlike the Colonists, your choices probably won?t involve you having to dodge real cannon balls and musket rounds. It may seem like it?or worse?but really, all you have to do is be willing to see what you haven?t allowed yourself to see before and deal with it.
Don?t wait until you?re up against a wall?literally or figuratively?before you do what you?ve known deep down that you need to. Unhook from the confusion and fear that?s keeping you stuck and declare your own independence.
Own your choices and embrace change. Empower yourself and claim your personal freedom now!
