Recreation Department Announces Adult Programs - 9th Arkansas

Teaneck Recreation Departments program for children is well known and admired in our community but did you know that the Teaneck Recreation Department offers art, exercise and sports programs for adults as well? This fall the Department offers adults the opportunity to replenish energy lost through the daily grind by enrolling in Golf, Latin Ballroom, Pilates, Pottery, Tai Chi Chuan, Tennis, Indoor Tennis, Yoga for Relaxation and Zumba classes as well as participating in our open gym basketball and volleyball programs.

Golf classes offers participants a basic introduction to golf by focusing on golf etiquette, grip and posture, weight shifting and arm rotation. Participants also learn how to hit a driver and how to chip and putt. Classes are offered Mondays from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at the Bogota Golf Center. Students have the option of bringing their own beginner set of golf clubs or may use clubs provided by instructor.

Latin Ballroom dance is the meeting point of European and African cultures and combines a wide variety of dance forms. Salsa, Merengue and Bachata are the dances which will be highlighted in this program. Dancers will experience an increase in flexibility, strength and endurance and a heightened sense of well being and will learn the basics of these beautiful and fun dance forms. Couples and single dancers are encouraged to enroll. Dancers will be designated as leaders and followers, as all good dancers must learn to follow as well as to lead. Classes are offered Tuesdays from 8:00 to 8:55 pm

Pilates is a regimen for strengthening core muscles with profound results for people of all ages and abilities. Pilates engages both body and mind and emphasizes the uniform development of all muscle groups while promoting flexibility, circulation and skeletal alignment. Classes are offered Wednesdays from 8:00 pm to 8:55 pm

Pottery offers students an opportunity for creative expression by exploring the ancient art of pottery. While pottery originated as a practical art with the creation of eating and drinking vessels, it has evolved into a highly creative art form valued and enjoyed by many through the ages. Students learn, improve, or reacquaint themselves with the basic techniques of working with clay. Classes are offered Tuesdays from 7:45 to 9:15 pm or Thursdays from 9:45 to 11:15 am

1 Tai Chi Chuan with its gentle, soft and rhythmic movements, has its basis in ancient principles and techniques. Students will learn the composition of movements and forms that are regulated by the principle of Yin and Yang. Practicing it regularly can improve your aerobic capacity, muscular strength, flexibility and balance, and it can improve your well being and decrease your stress. Millions of men and women all over the world practice this daily as a form of exercise. Classes are offered Thursdays from 7:00 to 7:55 pm

Tennis lessons for beginner and advanced beginner students will be offered on outdoor and indoor courts this season. Outdoor tennis lessons begin Sunday, September 25 and indoor tennis lessons begins Monday, November 7 and Wednesday, November 9.

Yoga for Relaxation is the perfect program for new and experienced students. Each class begins with stretches to warm up the entire body and includes a series of fun and healthy yoga poses, both standing and sitting specifically designed for the beginner and advanced yoga student. Classes explore simple breathing techniques that can be used at any time, exercises which help balance the body and mind, as well as a 10 minute deep relaxation period at the end of each session. By learning to relax the mind and body, Yoga for Relaxation provides benefits that include improved flexibility and muscle tone, the toning and stimulation of all organs, stress reduction as well as improved concentration and increased confidence. Classes are offered Mondays from 8:00 to 8:55 pm

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness program that incorporates a blend of international music and contagious dance steps to form a fitness party at each class. You dont have to know how to dance, you just move your body and follow the instructors lead. Classes are offered Mondays from 7:00 to 7:55 pm

The fall exercise programs consists of ten weekly classes and are open to residents of Teaneck and the surrounding communities. The fee for the entire program is $75 for Teaneck residents and $120 for non residents. The Departments open gym basketball and volleyball programs are free and are offered for Teaneck residents only.

Our complete brochure as well as individual program flyers are available daily at the information table located in the hallway of the Richard Rodda Community Center; 250 Colonial Court at the south end of Votee Park from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday to Friday and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.
